Last post for a while – It is probably not actually PD…unfortunately

This is a blog entitled Fighting Parkinson’s…so I need to declare that after recent developments it looks like the probable diagnosis is not actually Classic Parkinson’s but a much rarer disease known as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy or PSP for short.

Sadly it is a much more aggressive disease in many ways and tends to evolve far faster.

I won’t spend much time detailing it. It is still just the probable cause but high probability given that I have very close correlation to the main symptoms including something called vertical eye palsy and a serious balance issue.

I have a lot to learn and when I am ready I will come back and blog. I am not sure if blogging is what I want to do as it is truly a horrible disease and I don’t want people to confuse it with Parkinson’s – that is not right or fair.

I am going to write a blog about Driving soon. It is something I have thought about a lot and with the new probable diagnosis I have stopped driving for good. This is something mentally very tough.

I am making other changes to lifestyle and work environment and increasing exercise and healthy living and am going to explore the PSP community.

I am positive – to the extent anyone with PSP can probably be – and I will fight this tooth and nail but first I need to adjust and regroup as does the family.

I hope to post soon.

For now I continue on the Pump as the strain of PSP I have is probably PSP-P which seems to respond to the levadopa although not always. So my friend for now stays.

Wishing all well and speak soon 🙂

Hello! I am Ben Lazarus

Originally diagnozed with Parkinson’s it has sadly turned into PSP a more aggressive cousin. I am 50 and have recently retired but enough of the sob story – I am a truly blessed person who would not swap with anyone on the planet, principally because I have the best wife and kids in the world (I am of course completely objective :-)). Anyway I am recording via the Blog my journey as therapy to myself, possibly to give a glimpse into my life for others who deal with similar situations and of course those who know me.
